LOST & FOUND
THE SEARCH
The search for ex-personnel of 1st Australian Field Hospital began in earnest
after the Reunion in Melbourne, March 1996. After this Reunion we had a financial base of just 18 people, and a mailing list of
approx. 150 people. Fortunately for us, not long after the Reunion, the Department of Veteran Affairs released the Nominal Roll of
Vietnam Veterans - so off we ran to the Government Book Shop to purchase the
computer version of the Roll.
From the Nominal Roll we
were able to print off a list of those who served at 1AFH, RAANC, RAAMC, 33
Dental, 1 Fd Hyg, 1 Fd Med & Dent and the Red Cross and so the hunt began.
We began our research by
looking at the Regimental Number of each person to ascertain the State of
enlistment, and by using this as a guide were able to find many people. If this
failed, we then searched State by State and, as you can imagine, it was a long
and arduous task but we managed to find many more ex-members of the unit. (I admit
though, we looked at the birth date for some, and if they were of retirement
age, and not found in their home State, we checked Queensland first - and Bingo - a lot were there!).The MIA (“Missing In Australia”) LIST
There are still many ex-personnel who we have not been able to find and the
search for these people continues. Occasionally though someone will find
themselves for us (through word of mouth) and this gives us an enormous thrill.
The Missing in Australia List is slowly whittling down, with thanks to those
Members who send in addresses and other details about these people. If you know
of any one who has served with the Unit since its formation please contact the
Association.

a Doctor, Surgeon, Nurse or Aircrew - we are looking for you too!

“WE SEEK THEM HERE, WE SEEK THEM
THERE”
The task of finding all
those who have served with the 1st
(Aust) Field Hospital, 1 Fd Hosp,
1HSB and detached units, is on-going, so any information you, the
Members or the general public, can supply to us will be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately, with all our searching for addresses to match names, we are not
100% certain that we are reaching our targets. So if you are an ex-member of
the Unit and have not heard from us, please email your details to us and we
will contact you.
