By the sea, by the sea, by the beautiful sea...... After a hectic Registration period in the afternoon it was marvellous to enjoy a wonderfully relaxed evening in such fantastic surrounds. The night’s festivities began with a few pre-dinner drinks in the foyer accompanied to the tinkling sound of the piano, played by our multi-talented Patron, David Rossi. I personally missed the performance while sorting out some late transactions in the Rego Room, but am told by a very reliable source that “he really can play!”. I am sorry I didn’t get the chance to put in a request. After moving into the Ballroom, and seating ourselves around the tables, we got down to the business of enjoying ourselves the way all good ‘Vampires’ do on these occasions. We dined on a BBQ Buffet, ooohed and aaaahed over the sunset, sat and gossiped, laughed and, naturally, imbibed just a little! Adding to the overall enjoyment of the evening, the El Presidenté kept what he had to say to a minimum. His speech going something like this “Welcome! We’re here to have a good time, so ‘Do It’! and if you miss any of the organised transport to and fro from anywhere, then it’s a long walk! We hope you all enjoy Paul’s Slide Show etc” and then it was “On With The Show!”. Paul (our beloved Treasurer), had spent some months sorting through slides and adding them to a PowerPoint program on the computer, his plan being “mmmm, this might be a way to get some names for these faces” …. his idea was to display it somehow in the Rego Area, but Bob & I had other ideas! We knew we wanted a little bit of entertainment for the ‘Early Bird Function’ but didn’t want something that was going to overpower or distract from peoples conversations (and/or having a good time), so after viewing Paul’s slide show prior to the reunion we thought “Let’s get a big screen for the ball room” So we did! From the moment the show began the room was peppered with “Isn’t that so and so, my he’s a good looking speciman”, “Hey, that’s Tom Byrne”, “Wasn’t that Maurie Sainsbury?” “God, look how young I was” ….. well, you get the drift. So much laughter, so much fun – I think we’ll do it again (Hi Paul, good friend, good buddy! Next reunion is in your home town, you know. You’ve got two years!).The night was an absolute joy and as there is nothing I can add to that statement, I’ll go! |
