And came home, they did! Pen to paper or words cannot really express the emotions, the feelings or the memories that really came home on the 4,5 & 6th April 1998. It was overwhelming to say the least. To actually be with veterans that I had worked side by side with, even only as a cook (and our work went much further than that), not having seen them since 1969/70 was something that I will never forget.

My, how we have aged, many have war related problems of some type but the mateship and comradeship is still as strong as it was back then. The tears flowed and the memories, well, it was just like yesterday wasn’t it?The most humble, yet privileged, time for me was the wreath laying at the Memorial Dedication and Remembrance Service. To lay the wreath, in solemn remembrance of those whom no longer grace our ranks – well words cannot express my feelings. I will never forget that honour and with that “We will all remember them. Lest We Forget”.  The goodbyes for many of us, on the Monday and Tuesday, were almost too much, even now when I think about it my tears come back.To Bob Bell, his wife Denise and family helpers, along with the rest of our Executive, co-ordinaters and general helpers – I take my hat off to you all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It was the ‘reunion of all reunions’, and one I will never forget. I await the Year 2000, when we will all come home again!
