(June’s husband served at 1st Australian Field Hospital, South Vietnam 10/69-9/70) In my opinion the initial Melbourne 1996 Reunion was a success for several different reasons. Firstly, because everyone got to meet people they had not seen for quite some time and to catch up on family and friends. Secondly, and what I consider to be far more important, was that it made people realise that all Vietnam Veterans and their families have experienced similar highs and lows over the last 25 years or so. It was good to talk to others who knew what it was like to deal with the Department of Veteran Affairs and Veteran’s Groups. As my husband is a Totally & Permanently Incapacitated Veteran - TPI (at what is considered a young age) it was terrific to meet people who are in the same boat. It was a help to share these experiences, and be able to talk freely and not worry about comments being taken the wrong way. The social aspect of the weekend was absolutely great and I am confident the Association will grow in leaps and bounds once others hear what a wonderful time we had in Melbourne. I look forward to receiving the newsletters and especially look forward to the reunion in 1998. |
